Yeah I'm pretty much on the same page that you are. If something is really mean/hateful/racist etc, I will dislike it. If someone is just making a video and it's low quality, I won't dislike something like that.
 
It's probably a mix of half and half, there are a LOT of trolls on YouTube. You never really know. The best way to guestimate would to asses the quality of a video. If it's really good then the dislikes are most probably just trolls.
