Honestly I feel like this is one of the best ways to get discovered. Getting good search rankings will also help with this as I find that it's my videos that were already ranking well in search that tend to be more likely to show up in the suggested videos for other popular videos. Not sure exactly what their algorithm for suggesting videos is based around, but once one of your videos gets picked it can really help you rake in the views.

Currently 45% of my views come from my videos being in the recommended videos for other videos, another 31% from search, another 16% from my videos being recommended on people's home pages. Just ~2% in their subscription feeds if they're already subscribed, and the other 6% from elsewhere.

I remember Boogie2988 thanking RayWilliamJohnson for sharing a video of his on Rays channel and Boogie is as big as he is today (most probably) because of that exposure.
