With this new job I want to buy my first DSLR, and I have absolutely no clue on which to buy. I've been watching tons of reviews, and I kinda know the T5i looks like the one I might get. Though, I'm still not 100% convinced.

Heck, I don't even know if a Canon is what I should buy. Mostly I'll be wanting to use it for short films, and get a really good cinematic look. So, if anyone can tell me what I should look into, and WHY. I'd be deeply grateful! :D
 
Canon are usually most peoples choice when it comes to DSLRs for video, I would go with the t5i or the t6i once it is out.
 
Yeah, I would definitely go with the Rebel series. I would also look at the differences between t3i, t4i, and t5i, because the quality of each is basically going to be the same minus a few features. And typically, you can get the older models cheaper. If you're feeling fancy though, you can always get a 60d or 70d canon which have a higher quality than the t-series, but higher priced.

You can find plenty of comparisons on Youtube etc.

Definitely go with the Canon Rebel series as a starter. Don't go overboard and get a 6D or 5D Mark III. I mean it would be good to have, but it would be a waste if you don't know how to use it.

I bought a T3i and I really do like the quality. When researching I kept reading that the T5i wasn't much of an improvement over the T3i. Some minor improvements, but it didn't justify the cost difference. I say get the entry level T3i and buy some prime lenses. It is very capable of short films, regular videos, photos, anything. Maybe not the top of line camera, but there is a reason that this one is still most sought after by consumers.

Personally I would upgrade to the t5i because it has some better auto focus capabilities but thats because I would like them, you would likely be happy with the t4i which I currently have, the flip out and swivel screen as well as mic input has been great, some of the lower models dont include those and I couldnt live without them me.

See, in the video I watched the guy said the t4i and the t5i's autofocus were a joke. I mean, since I'm going to be doing it manually anyway, that doesn't matter, but still.
