yeah definitely Gimp or just get a trial of photoshop from the adobe creative cloud to see what you think
 
Paint will do the trick if you're not too savy. Play with what you want then make sure you have some time to ensure the right demensions. It's not as daunting as you might think.

there are also a few people around here who offer their artist services, it is worth asking about if your not comfortable doing it yourself.
