How valuable is an intro on videos/channel?

Hi everyone,

I've been thinking about creating an short intro to use on all my videos, like something cartoonish looking, but I'm starting to think do video intros really make a difference? Yeah they look cool, but I don't think they're very important in the long run. I've weighed the pros and cons...I think they are a great way to help people remember your channel and your brand, but then I also think people might actually find it annoying to have to wait for your video intro to end on every video before they watch it. Then I worry about people thinking I'm not genuine or that I don't have good intentions if my videos have too much marketing in them. I dunno, I guess I'm just wondering if it's important to have a channel intro or how valuable they are.

I always get comments about my intro. People seem to like it and I think as long as it's not too long, it's fine. It shows a hint of professionalism n my eyes.

Personally, I like an intro with good music and I prefer a video with an intro. Usually, I do a few seconds clip from the video, then the intro, then back to the video :)

I really can't use intros because my videos average about 50 seconds to 1 minute in length, so throwing an intro on that would be a bit redundant unless it's like 3 seconds long. :v

I use an intro for my vlogs, I think it makes them feel a touch classier. For my gaming videos, I haven't bothered - I keep switching out the games I play and so I'd constantly need new intros.

I used to have a little intro, no longer than 5 seconds, which people in the streets used to sing to me...

So yes, people do remember a jingle, but then after reading many-a book on capturing an audience, they make there mind up weather they're going to watch the video in the first 7/8 seconds. some even less. so if you have an intro, people might just switch off. an outro would be better, because you can then incorperate a "watch this video" link too!

I've started to end my videos with a quirky slap of the camera, something original and fun, and now people remember me for that... bizzarely!

I think that an intro adds a bit more depth and has a certain je ne sais quoi. It should never be too long though.

I like to put something before the intro if I use 1. Similar to how TV shows do it. If you had to watch their intros, which are like 30-60secs everytime just to get to the show it would be a pain, although I generally just skip through them xD I would say if you're doing vlogs maybe have the part where you do like the intro intro, I'm not sure what to call it lol but I've noticed vloggers generally introduce the topic? and then maybe have the intro play.

Thanks everyone for the help. I think I definitely will make an intro after hearing all your feedback, something that is maybe 3 seconds long. I'll cut to it after introducing the topic, and then go back to the video :)
