How to use tags

Can someone tell me or make a thread on how to make tags effectively, I always find myself stumbling over tags and can't get more than 15 without struggling.

I have the same problem :P The thing is, creating tags is very time-consuming and you can't get around that :P

Just make shure to tag your name in any variation and to tag all the things you want the viewers to search for if they want to see a video like yours :P

Start out with the basic tags that have a direct connection to your video. You're doing game videos, so start with the basic info about the game: name of the game, the platform, the developer, the publisher, genre (FPS, RTS, etc). Of course also the particular thing you're doing in the video. 'Zipline' for example.

Next some tags describing the type of video. Commentary or not? Video quality (720p or 1080p). FPS (30 or 60). Is it a tutorial, a guide, a general playthrough?

Lastly try to think of as many important characters or locations that are either features in the video or in the series (if part of a series). Also include stuff related to the game in question that you think people will search for in relation to this particular game. For example, this is the list of tags I ended up with at the end of my Half-Life 2 playthrough:

Half-life,Valve,Source,Steam,Gordon,Freeman,City,17,teleporter,Dr,Breen,Kleine,Alyx,Vance,Gman,Black,Mesa,First,Person,Shooter,Lets,Play,playthrough,tutorial,walkthrough,Combine,Citadel,Ravenholm,Commentary,Live,antlions,coast,Nova,Prospekt,Vortigaunt,Intervention,Power,Core,Advisor,Stabalize,Reactor,Gravity,Gun,G-man,Saved,Zombine,Xen,Wildlife,Episode,One,Two,Hunter,Mine,Magnussen,Extract,Unforeseen,Consequences,Larval,White,Forest

At some point you'll hit a tag limit though, so pick and choose which tags are important to keep and which can go.

Another tagging technique I remember from a long time ago is to make up a random keyword that's usually not thought of on each of your videos. Like put "flying_chicken" on each of your videos as a tag. What should happen is that when your videos gain a little amount of views, more of your own videos would show up in the related search because they have the same unique tag.

If you want help with your tags and you know your video is similar to another video you have seen such a Game Play then you can get a Chrome addon called vidiq and that will let you know what tags they have used. See if some of them are related to your video

You can see what tags anyone uses without any addons by going to said video and right clicking on the page and selecting "view page source" and then finding the keywords.

Keep working on good watch time on your video's and you'll see the tags will work. If you search for example ''assassin's creed revelations mission 1'' you see my video is ranked 1 above all the other video's with way more views. This is because i tagged the video with ''assassin's creed revelations mission 1'' and has good watch time. Focus on watch time by creating playlists and annotations for your video's.
