-Your legs weigh heavily, each step you take feels like moving a mountain with only your body to support you. The steps creak underneath you, the stairs sighing heavily under the weight of what you are about to do. Your parents, simple folk really, have no knowledge of this world you reside in during the weekend. Your passion unrecognized, your love unacknowledged, your thought not of this world...
How long has it been? 6 months now, maybe 7? You try to focus your thought, but the harder you try the worse the pain gets. "No, this ends tonight..." you think to yourself. As you reach the bottom of the stairs, Dad walks into the hallway as if on queue... You stare at each other, his eye following you as you walk past him into the living room, beckoning him to follow you.
When you arrive at the couch Mom greets you with a warm smile, her hands working furiously on the knitting she's been so passionate about. She glimpses sideways, sees Dad sit back down on the couch and looks at you confused.
"Yes dear, what can we do for you?" says Mom, putting down her knitting.
"Mom, Dad, I.....I don't know..." you stutter, struggling to find the right words.
"It's alright, we're here for you sweety..." Dad was always the more comforting one...
"It's just that....you know... Ever since I gave up playing the kazoo, things have been tough..." You fight to hold back the tears, but you can feel them welling up inside of you, accompanied by all of the rage that's built over over the months...
"Sweetheart, you can tell us anything, we swear!" Mom adds...
"Mom, Dad, I found a new hobby! Something I can share with people, and they give me feedback and we have a great time together!"
"That's great news sweetheart! What have you found?"
"It's....well...It's complicated! Yesterday I got on Skype with Joel and we built a castle together out of dirt, and then a creeper blew it up, and then..."
Mom and Dad look equally shocked, stunned even, to hear of your new hobby! at first they don't seem to be able to speak, but then Dad softly says:
"You don't mean.....You cannot possibly mean..."
You nod, lowering your head in disappointment. You feel the disapproving eyes of your parents glancing at you, distrusting, disgusting...
"My child, be very honest with me now! Look at me.....LOOK AT ME!"
Dad always shouts at you when he's angry, but this time it's louder than normal, more furious... His voice cracks from anger before he calms down and says:
"This is serious right? Answer me this: are you...?"
You look up in a flash of anger, all the emotions and memories from the past months gushing out of you as if they were lava flowing from a cave, engulfing your diamond heart never to be seen again! This is it, it's now or never, do or die, no time for losers!
"...yes Dad, I'm doing Youtube!"
Dad has a heart attack from anger! Mom faints from exhaustion, drooling a little bit while slouched over the couch...

Seriously though, why is telling your parents such a big deal? It's a hobby, not a crime! Unless you have a set of seriously scary parents, I would just treat it like any other hobby... Show them, tell them about it, get them involved... Don't create this nightmarish scenario about what horrors lie waiting if you ever tell them you're doing something creative with your time!
