How to stutter less?

How to say "em", "uh" and stutter/leave long gaps less in your commentaries/videos?

I think for me it's a habit I'm getting rid of - it's very annoying in videos so it's obviously a bad idea to have it. Sometimes my brain just shuts off and drifts away so I can't think of what I was going to say until it comes back.

Anyone else get this? How do you resolve it? I tried taking notes in textedit (not writing a script) to have something to say all the time, but I say "em" out of habit, usually just in front of a mic and not so much in real life.

Until you get better at commentating and talking constantly I'd say edit your videos/audio to cut out the ums and so on. Otherwise it's just practice and getting better the more you do it :)

I guess I would start out by asking, what kind of gaming videos are you looking to make?

I come from a channel made up of 8 people, and I have noticed that each of my crew has a varying level of comfortably in front of a mic, even if they are super talkative when we are playing normally, the moment I get a mic in front of them they can clam up. So part of what I would suggest is the age old saying, keep making content. As you make more and more videos you will begin to become more comfortable in front of the mic and be less likely to shut out. Definitely take note on how often you say "em" or "uh" and if you feel yourself starting to slow down make a conscious effort to avoid those words.

From what I can see on your channel it appears that you are trying to start more of a Gossip, News gaming channel where you talk about what is coming up. And honestly it may not be a bad idea to write full scripts for that kind of content. It will allow you to edit what you want to say and provide the most information in the shortest amount of time. If you are worried about sounding like you are just reading off a script then perhaps also trying writing an outline and then improving a little bit of the content as well.

So yeah, hopefully thats helps a little bit! Those are just a few ideas I had.

there really isn't too much you can do other than keep making videos and get comfortable with speaking. eventually you'll get a flow were you say um less. it happens to the best of us tho..i studder to this day..while its much much less then it use to be it still happens...but just get comfortable with speaking by making videos..it's going to be hard at first but if i can do it anyone can!

I find when I try to follow a set script/topic I stutter more than I do just free flowing. I'm on the radio every Thursday and when I do that I got flow like a professional rapper but if I try to sit down and talk about any topic in a video even I will get hit with ums... its kinda unavoidable.

I've acted in public for a few plays and I didn't really stutter unless I forgot my line.

I started recording videos and I am constantly editing out stutters, and sometimes I can't edit them out.
I am just hoping that as I continue to make videos I will become more confident. I also need to learn to speak as if I'm actually talking to a person. IRL my voice is very booming and loud and clear (kinda like Markiplier) but when I sit at my computer I kinda go monotone, and don't speak very enthusiastically. Once I can talk to a mic like an actual person I think the quality of my videos will go up quite a bit.

I used to be nervous when I put a mic or camera on myself. These people are right. The more you do it, the more comfortable you get. I can ramble and say random crap all I want now, often going on tangents that make no sense and have little to do with a game I'm playing or whatever it is I'm talking about.

Unfortunately there is no magic formula for fixing that issue besides one: do more, more, more videos. Only by practice you make yourself more comfortable (i'm doing this by less than 3 months and I'm still need to unlock myself completely). It's only a matter of time!

Well, that pretty much is the magic formula. lol.

Something I've found to be helpful is A) practice! and B) Talking slightly slower so you can contemplate what you are about to say, but not too slow or you'll most likely sound rubbish.
