How To Record High Quality Video?

I want to find out how I'd be able to just record a video in high quality straight from the screen. I already looked into a few things like Camtasia, and it doesn't seem to be what I'm looking for. I downloaded the free trial of Debut Video Recorder (I think that's what it's called) and it didn't really record at a decent frame rate.
I'm not talking about something for flash videos. For example, something that would allow me to record a video clip from what's playing from a dvd on my screen. I do have ProShow Gold, so then I could import the clips and put text over them. This is for critique purposes. Thanks.

OBS is free and it'll let you record your screen without a drop in quality. However, you'll always get a small quality drop when rendering the video.

Well, I appreciate the suggestion. However, I tried Open Broadcast Software and I can't seem to make the "Start Recording" button react; it's faded out along with "Edit Scene". If anyone knows how to solve that, please let me know.

Does anyone know any other software that might be able to do this? I forgot to mention that I really want to find something free if I can. I'll do without special features.

Also, I was thinking that maybe there's a better way to do this. I mean, how do people normally take, say a few clips from a show, and put it together in a video and narrate over the top of it? Would you just take a DVD or Blu-ray and copy it to the hard drive somehow and then put it in some kind of video editing software to put all the scenes together?[DOUBLEPOST=1409879130,1409876403][/DOUBLEPOST]Okay, learning about how to use OBS. But if anyone has any suggestions on what the best way to do this stuff is, and what I can use to edit the video while adding narration, please let me know.[DOUBLEPOST=1409883743][/DOUBLEPOST]Well, I just spent probably over an hour with OBS and my PC can't run it fast enough to record smooth video so I definitely need to find another way of doing this.

I use Procaster to record my screen and it works well for what I use it for. It has several customizable options as well. (Much more than /I/ personally need, haha.)

Good luck finding something that can work for you!

Thanks, but as I said at the end of my post, I need to find another way other than recording what's on my screen because my PC doesn't come close to processing it.

So now my question is, what's the best way to get video from a DVD, Blu-ray, or digital file (like what you'd buy on Amazon) and put it in a video editor? And is there a decent free editor that you recommend?

Maybe you should google tutorials on these programs so you can use them correctly because obviously you don't know what you're doing.

I watched a 35 minute tutorial on YouTube about OBS and learned about it. I can record using that program. The problem is that no matter how I adjust the settings, my PC is far too slow to be able to record at anywhere near 30 fps, so the video is very jittery. The guy in the tutorial said he had a PC with an i7.

Clearly, this is not this is not the way people get video into an editor, so now I'm trying to find out how most people go about doing this.

Sounds to me like you need a better PC in order to capture everything at once. OBS is very good at working with older computers as well, if you have the right settings.

As I said in an earlier post, all I want to know now is, what's the best way to get a DVD, Blu-ray, etc into a video editor so I can work with it?

As your earlier post mentioned, your PC isn't good enough to have a constant frame rate of 30fps, so recording a blueray will be average at best.
