How to record console gameplay before Elgatos.

Hi, I was wondering how a person would record gameplay on their consoles before Elgatos ever came into the picture. Did they do it with capture cards, or like cam corders.

well i cant afford an elgator atm, so i use screen capture programs and my hd digital recorder that sits on tripod from tv.

i currently tried this for my classic sonic gameplays but some butt hurt jerk got mad and said dont do that... its like... stfu you jerk, i cant afford elgator atm so buzz off and let me record on my tv hd camera style for now >:G

Wow that's cool, yeah that guy can duck off. I'm a let's player because I like to play games and thats just my goal.

not trying to promote my channel but i started of my channel as a vlogger but i do want to do lets play and use lets play to attract more to my channel.
wana share support? I want to do Lets Play Classic sonic games with my daughter and pokemon crystal version maybe later mario bro classic on the nintendo wiiU i have xbox 360 and nintendo wiiU family games and want to do lets play games with me and in between my 5 year old daughter, except the lets play wont show our faces because were using our hd camera for now,

eventually we will get elgator when the money rolls around for now money goes to bills and other importance.
if you like to support eachother ill for sure support your channel and maybe we can somehow collab sometime eh? like maybe if you do lets play we can just talk online or if i do a lets play like agar.io online we can do party and chit chat just some collab ideas for lets play gamers supporters :3

Oh im also a world of warcraft player saven up for legion so i for sure will do lets plays when that launches as well :3

That sounds amazing, I would like to do a collab with you. I only have a Playstation unfortunately, and steam I'm not rolling in it so I can't afford a whole lot of games. But I can be your 243 subscriber, maybe you could give me a shout out, nothing big.
