How to not seem spammy

Just curious how everyone goes about getting their videos those first initial views so it starts to appear in searches?

I see a lot of people saying share it among communities similar to your topic, but this seems spammy to me. Surely there is a better way of doing it? Or is it just as simple as putting your channel in your forum signature and just posting genuinely and hoping that people click?

I mean it might be spammy if you're just posting "hey look at my video" and you post like 3 threads in a short period of time but it def helps you get viewers and more importantly it helps get you people who are more likely to actually watch you video rather than just staying subscribed and never watching anything you post

I would say share it. just don’t over share it like don’t keep posting it over and over again, I’ve seen some people over due it by posting it over 100 times and keep asking for sub for sub. Btw never do sub for sub

With the right topic, one heavily searched, and proper tagging, your video should get some initial views. If people watch all the way through and engage with it by comments or liking and stay on YouTube then it will promote and be seen more

Moved to the strategy / technique forum. :)

The best way to not appear spammy is not to spam. ^^

Just let it grow naturally - especially if the video topic is something people will be searching for.
I have a video about dive equipment, there is nowhere you can promote that, its just weird to post something like that in dive forums/groups.
After a month there were only 100 views, but then afterwards it has shot up and within a few months now has almost 900 views. I looked at the analytics and its all from recommended videos.
Once your video gets enough views youtube will start revealing it in the recommended column

The best advice is actually to leave it alone and let it grow natually (with seo etc)

I've spent money on adwords ads for some of my videos and I can say I agree with you on SEO and let it gro naturally.

I'm so close to fully understanding SEO but man can it be confusing sometimes. :/

There are so many people today that are competing and want the very same thing you want: Subscribers, views, likes, etc. So the goal is to be different. Don't just want subscribers, view, likes, etc - Want to have a genuine connection with your audience. Be helpful. Be active. Be everywhere! Market in everything you do, but in a way that is relevant to them and provides value. I haven't been investing a cent into my channel. I've just been paying attention to my audience, things they want, what's trending/viral, take advantage of things like holidays to do occasion oriented events. It's not just about content. It's also about connections, being different, and being at the right place at the right time. The only way to increase that possibility is to be in many places, so your chance of being in the right place and then at the right time is increased. I completely agree with others here: Grow naturally. So many people are spending money to promote it isn't worth it. Plus paying for exposure doesn't necessarily give you an audience. People need to connect with you and only you can facilitate that connection. So, go for it! Don't forget to help others out along the way in your niche and in your audience, too. Be open to criticism. Improving can only help your chances. It begins with you. If they love you enough, then you won't have to bring people to you because people will gravitate towards you. Good luck!
