How to make object spin in front of the camera?

I see many toy reviewers use this effect. How is it done?

1) Rotate a white box?
2) Rotate the object with a spinning disk hid under them?
3) Move the camera and take stop motion pictures?
4) Something else?

The effect is awesome but I have no idea which is the best way to do it.

There are loads of ways of doing this from using record player turntables etc.
If you are on a no budget approach then a simple trick is to take the glass plate thing out of the bottom of your microwave. Using site paper to cover it you will be able to spin by hand (keeping your hand out of shot) giving you a good makeshift turntable.
