how to keep your subs engaged

Loving YTtalk
So I feel like my subs are dead at their computers. I have over 500 subs, I've been getting an average of 50 views, and majority of comments are bots.

To be fair my videos haven't been my normal content since I was in hospital but I feel like no ones even watching anyway. I see people with less subs have an audience that comments. So how do you guys get people to comment without directly going "Comment"

Getting subs is hard, getting active subs (actual fans) is even tougher. I have about 300 subs and I may only get 5-10 views from them when I upload a new video, sometimes more. I figure a lot of them are just casual users of YT and dont pay attention to their accounts much. Seems you need to be well over 1000 subs to have an active base.

I'm actually about to archive the old channel and try a new one just get active viewers. Plus, a lot of my old content was trash and might not need to be associated with a new channel. Edits of really low res Dark Souls streams and whatnot. Don't fall into the trap of using giveaways to attract people. Cuz then it will be the giveaways that keep em engaged.

True, BUT the channel's dead because of inconsistent uploading and inactivity over 4 years, so if I abandon it for a new one (no one's gonna move over, lol) then I will be at an impass because the old channel will be more dead from being archived while the new channel fails. lol.

Some ideas:

Ask them for their opinions.
Be controversial. (but you'll have to accept you'll get downvoted too)
Upload regularly. (they'll feel a better connection)
Get more views (What I mean is, getting comments is mostly a numbers game. Only a small percentage of viewers will leave a comment so the way to get more comments is to get more views.)

Even though your channel is slowly growing, it's still growing and you still have an audience! So, it's still important to show up for yourself and your viewers and do the best you can. Growth on YouTube is not linear, but you are always learning. Try to promote more on social media, create secondary social media accounts. Be engaging with your audience by making them a part of your channel. Ask them what they want to see or ask them a question that has to do with your video. I hope this helps!
