I think they are treated mostly the same by SEO, but seem to be ranked high on YouTube before the event starts, and then the comments and watch time really drive up rankings. A little update, my two biggest videos using this have over 100k views.

Wait... Isn't spamming loads of tags in your description against the TOS and can get you banned?

This teaches me nothing on how to boost my views on my videos through SEO, but only the livestreams themselves. I don't mean to be negative but this could get people banned...

I have read it is against the terms of service, but the way I do it is a bit different. I just put "Things you will find in this video: tag, tag, tag, and tag". I do not just list out other youtubers names and loads of irrelevant tags. Only things that the video is truly about, which in my head makes it more of a description than tag spam.
If you write your description densely with tags then you don't need it. Important parts of the video are the livestreaming, the topic, and to keep your tags and title around one very searchable term. If you are a YouTube expert this may not help you, but I see many people make these mistakes.

The livestreaming thing is the key part. My very best on-demand videos can't keep up with my live tutorials, just because of the boost you get in searches.

11 more subs and I can actually take advantage of this! I've been wanting to get into livestreaming, but starting fresh on Twitch means losing my initial (tiddly) 'fan'base. YT Streaming could be interesting!
