How to get more comments?

If you want more comments, DO NOT act like one of those big YouTubers who ask people to comment. That's just annoying.
What you can do is go over to your subscribers' channel and try to start up a conversation with them.

I couldn't disagree more. PhillyD does it well. He asks for a comment, and then gives incentive by giving away things people want. I think asking for comments or any specific things like "likes" every show can get annoying for me as a viewer, but that's just part of the game. Do it in a smart way without blatantly asking at the end for everything. You know, the "Like, comment and subscribe for more content!" I don't think annotations are the way to go though. YouTube doesn't seem to want to support them for TV or console versions of YouTube, so I think you are best of making it a physical part of the video, sort of like in Vlerabrite's vlogs.

TL;DR: Ask for each action you want them to do without shoving them all together.

I agree with this to an extent, but asking for your viewers to do things for you is just...asinine. I can understand if it's, for instance, telling your subscribers to sub to a secondary channel or following them on a social networking site, but other than that, it just bugs me. The people who do this are mostly big YouTubers who don't even read half the comments they receive. They don't care about what you have to say, they just want you to give them attention so they can make money and get on the front page of YouTube.
Also, people ALWAYS want comments, subs, and likes. That's obvious. Asking them to do so is annoying and shows that they're desperate for them. I comment on things because I like them. Not because some annotation told me to.

Yeah good point. It depends on the content you make. If it's just a short film, the best you can get away with is asking for a rating, but you can do that with a "like." But for news, you can ask if they agree, or how their opinion differs from what was said in the video. For a like, and this is sort of what YouTube wants us to think, that if you love the content the creator is making, then giving them a way to help out by asking for a "like" makes the community stronger by making them feel like they are apart of it.

First thing you should do after you upload is post a comment to your video! And then respond to everyone in a positive, nice, encouraging manner! :D
