I never liked how the thumbnail for playlists had to be from one of the videos within the playlist. I wanted to make my own. So what I did was create short still framed videos on a second channel and added those to the end of my playlists.
I plan to update these to make them look better. But I think it's a better improvement than before, where my titles got cut off.
Why is this important? Well playlists appear in the searches, sometimes ranking higher than your individual videos. Playlists can also appear in your channel section depending how you set it up, which is one of the first impressions new visiters have on your channel. So I think it's worth getting good thumbnails on your playlists.
