How to commentate better?

I know it's definitely very strange for me to talk to myself but it's fun/funny at the same time.

My theory is to throw the whole "think before you speak" mentality out the window like Assaf said and say whatever your inside voice wants to say. I'm still working on this since we're all pretty much conditioned to watch what we say. After that, you just have to hope your inside voice is entertaining to other people.

Speaking of which, I thought it might be good practice and quite funny to try and commentate other stuff you do throughout the day, such as preparing breakfast or cleaning the house. Funny to the other people observing, that is :D

This depends on a lot of things. I personally am not very good at commentaries myself but you should always be confident when commentating. But other than that it depends on the game you are playing I find that I enjoy watching commentaries that have some meaning such as what the person is thinking rather than doing. This way it is more informative and maybe improve my play.

As I'm commentating more these days, I notice I have a lot more to say than when I began commentating. I'm not saying I'm pro at it, but I see progression in that trait. Another thing is, record whenever you are ready to record. What I mean by that is, if you aren't feeling good that day and you try to commentate, it won't come out that well. You'll feel forced and the commentary will sound mundane. A happy and fun mind is a happy and fun commentary.

Funny I say I have a lot more to say now but all it is, is oh s***s, ohs, damn, bro, etc.

Yeah its the practise I think, I'm just doing a lot of it and I think I'm improving gradually
I feel for me it's just getting the continuous talking and more confident speaking voice is what I need. Which will hopefully come in time

I don't do those kinds of videos but personally I would suggest you record the commentary separate. That way you can watch the gameplay while you record your voice- and you'll be able to focus, which leads to more entertaining videos.

This is called post-commentary. It's better for some, because it's easier to say just what you want to say. But personally I prefer live commentary, both watching others and recording for myself, because it includes real reactions and your viewers might feel more like they're actually spending time with you. I guess you could do post commentary and try to fake reactions and say it's live commentary, but it's really hard to do convincingly and if you can tell the commentator faked live commentary it's worse IMO than just doing honest post-commentary.

I was talking more about talking about anything. Not necessarily what's going on in the game. I agree with you about gameplay commentary. That sort of thing applies to sports as well.

After 4 years of youtube i think i got alot better, I remember when i would play games i would say "yep i'm chopping down wood" like nobody wants to here you say that. But now i am getting the hang of it, i still have problems with commentating though. But what worked for me most is keep commentating you will get better. Don't be anti social! Being social makes it easier to commentate cause you will know how to act in front of the camera.
