How should I edit a lets play/playthrough to keep sustained views?

Have started to play through the NFS Underground 1 & 2 on my channel, slowly working on how they should be edited. Started with just having a small portion of a race if I don't win, then cutting out entire races if they are not winning races (you don't win, you don't unlock the next race). This was so I could cut down video time and only include the important stuff. This leaves about 30 min too 1 hour of video time which I'm finding that people are not watching even 10% of. I've put something interesting that happens in the video at the start before playing the intro (also the part of the entire video that inspires the name of each 'episode') in the hopes to get more sustained views...no luck. Right now Ive got a little back-log a episodes in which Im thinking of editeding down to hopefully under 15m or there abouts (perfect for me due to upload time) to only key points in each race, only using footage from races that I win instead of the entire races/events itself. If there is key points in the story (new racer d-bag in funny cut scene) I could leave that in or even building a new car to keep it interesting. I wanted to have nearly all footage in the video but people just aren't watching it, which I don't blame them...50 mins to watch an un-known youtuber is HEAPS.

Whats the best way of going about this? Hoping its cutting down footage to make it more entertaining

Hey you should fix your channel link in your signature so we can get to your channel to check it out: http://yttalk.com/threads/how-to-add-your-youtube-channel-to-every-message-post.32/

Since I haven't seen the videos yet, I'd be willing to bet that people probably don't want to see the full race unless you win or it was a super close finish OR something funny happens and you have a reaction. I don't know if you're playing a story mode or just doing random races. And yeah getting your video time down should help.

I'm not a huge fan of let's plays, so I'll put that out there first, but if I'm watching a let's play and even 30 straight seconds goes by without at least something interesting happening or you saying something interesting, there is a good chance I'll move on to another video. Maybe huge fans of let's plays have more patience than that, but I think most people do not have a lot of patience in general.

I try to shorten down my let's play a lot! If I'm doing a full playthrough of a game I won't skip anything I'm doing. I did a full let's play of the Witcher 3, and I didn't post the parts where I did sidequests and some running back and forth.
Earlier today I did a battle royale match in H1Z1, and there was a point where nothing happened and I didn't really say much. That part I just clipped away.

If your doing a racing game or any game that has a lot of running and not much action, I'd stick to talking a lot. It keeps the audience entertained and engaged.

To keep people coming back for more when your low on subscribers, I think it's best to keep to content that people actually enjoy, and keep your videos short. Not many people wanna watch 30+ min vids if they don't even find you entertaining.

Your doing something right with an interesting clip at the beginning of the episode because it gets the viewer intrigued into the video. You clearly know yourself that the videos need to be cut down. Me personally I don't watch any video 15+ minutes because well its too long and have other videos to watch, the only way you could get away with a 45 - 60 minute video is if you were a large YouTuber.

I call to cut your episodes and stuff down to maybe 10-15 minutes, this will allow you to have more episodes which means more vieos which means more content for people to come back and view. Tease them in some epidoes to make them intrigued as to what happens next for example you could do a cheeky cut froma tight race where you and another car is neck and neck and at the final lap cut the video and upload the next episode in a day or two. This will make them come back if they are really interested in your videos and it may also make then comment things such as "what happened?" "who won?" "when is the next episode I want to know who won!"

YouTube is such a mind game
