How often is too often to change?

How often do you think its good to change your banner/thumbnail, if at all?
I've changed my banner a fair few times, as my channel, aesthetic and overall skill has changed (since I always make my own banners, although this one is just a photo I took with some text... )
i feel like changing your style too often could lead to people not knowing who you are, or not recognising your channel right away.

Also, What stand-out features do you have in your channel art, and thumbnails? I'm trying a new style with my thumbnails and I'm enjoying it!
 
I've had mine the same for the past... 5 months now?

I've changed it twice, not too far apart from each other before that because I couldn't make up my mind/ didn't exactly like the style.

I don't think I have any 'stand out features' about my channel art/ thumbnails, they're pretty plain.

I think anything too often would be... more than once within 2-3 months from each other.

I'm changing my channel art again later this week because I've finally figured out what I'm happy with now... I'm probably gonna keep it that way for a few years actually. :)
 
I think you can change it as much as you like, but make sure that if you have a logo to always use that logo or colors so people know that is you and not someone else :)

I had that issue so much LOL I kept wanting to update everything like once a week because I couldn't make up my mind about the style that I wanted my channel to be, I'm not 100% happy about it now but I think this is about the best I can currently do![DOUBLEPOST=1499095000][/DOUBLEPOST]

Thats a better idea, I think! I'd not really thought of that, I usually just do a whole overhaul of my entire channel art, but keeping things the same, or similar, just updating some things i's probably a much better idea LOL.. I'll have to do that next time!... Although, I don't actually have a channel logo atm... Maybe I should work on that
 
My thumbnail has never changed and I think my banner has been the same for quite a while now. I should change out my banner, but it takes too much time for me to design a new one so the old one just lingers.

My opinion: Stick with your thumbnail, don't change it unless it is a photo of you and you're changing with your thumbnail. A logo (like mine) is timeless.

I usually just make a new banner when inspiration strikes, which granted, isn't THAT often but... often enough for me to want to change it least once a month LOL
True, true, logo's are the way to go, thats true!
 
In terms of "branding", banners and avatars should very rarely be changed (if at all) - The point of branding is to create a visual / mental association between your artwork and your content and brand. In other words, the goal is that when people see your logo and / banner, they immediately think of your content That visual / mental association takes time to build up. If you keep changing it, then it's back to square one each time. Big companies occasionally change their logos their branding (maybe once every 20 years) but they have the luxury of millions of dollars to advertise to get their new branding out there.
 
If you have a logo I'd certainly keep that central to the whole banner but I do see quite a few YouTubers who like to change their banner with certain seasons, Christmas, Easter etc but yet keep their logo the same. Which I kind of like yet don't do it myself(lazy!).

Oh yeah that is a pretty cool idea, I like that! Maybe if I do season themed content this year or next I'll do something like that!
