How NOT to Promote Your Channel

I was on Omegle, trying to meet some new friends who are also interested in YouTube. I was connected with one person who simply left a link to their channel and then disconnected.

This is quite possibly one of the worst ways to promote a channel I've ever seen. It's right up there with sending out spam messages saying "CHECK OUT MY CHANNEL!" or commenting on other videos simply to promote your own channel.

What are some other ways that we should avoid promoting our channels?

And the ones you get random messages from saying stuff like, 'nice video, maybe you could check out my channel'.

Grrrr. Some people. Spamming comments will get you views and subs, but also hate.

Someone just left https://www.youtube.com/user/JohnandKenShow1 a link to thier channel? That is crappy. Check out my channel.. I mean you are right that is Awful I would never do that (check out my channel).

I think anything you do to promote your channel will annoy people. The way to be heard is to get to know your audience and interact with them, just linking and then leaving is never going to get anyone anywhere. Alot of work goes into making a video go viral, they don't just sit back a relax as a lot of people I have spoken to seem to think.

The people that message me with their channels asking me to subscribe bug me so much. Especially the ones that are all "I love you channel so much!" and they're not subscribed, pretty sure most of them haven't even watched anything I've ever posted :/

I hear you on this one, not had it for a while though. On other websites I used to get this all the time, I actually took a break from the internet because of these sort people.

I hate these ones most of all, PMs are bad but these are worse imo.
