How NOT to gain more subscribers

I hate to single out this guy's video, but I just saw it on Twitter, and, from my experience, and based on what the consensus here on this forum is, pretty much all of this guy's advice is wrong. So if you're looking to see what not to do to gain subscribers, check this video out, and basically do the exact opposite:

Right off the bat, his first suggestion is to visit a ton other videos and comment on each one, asking them to check out your channel and subscribe. His second? Basically just subscribe to everyone that offers sub4sub. It goes on from there. Not everything he says is bad, because of course, building a network on Twitter is good to do, but he's just going about everything the wrong way. And the terrible thing is that the comments section of his video is just filled with people supporting these methods, which is probably just hurting their brand more than helping it.

What do you guys think? Do you think there's actually merit to some of the things he's doing?

Well I mean technically he's right, those are good ways to get subs, but not any viewers. ;D

I mean... you probably will gain subscribers... but what's the point of having a high subscriber count? Generally, it translates to views/likes/comments... His subscribers likely won't be active at all on his channel.

Wouldn't do it.

Oh yeah, fair enough, yeah, you'll definitely gain subscribers, but as you've both touched upon, it's not gonna be helping you in the long run unless you have a bet with friends that you'll reach a certain amount of subscribers (or you're @100k with no videos ).

I love it how if you go to the video and look at the comments you have all these channels actually agreeing with this nonsense, I saw maybe one comment that spoke out against this. Deplorable honestly.

Can't really take "How to get subscribers" advice from a dude that hasn't got that many subscribers... If you've ever watched one "How to gain subscribers" video, then there's never a need to watch another as they all say the same s**t haha

One of my favorite channels came from someone who invited me to check out her channel. I believe she browsed related channel videos and looked for people who posted supportive comments. She then left them messages about her channel. Some people mentioned on her channel that they actually prefer if someone to asks politely if they could check out their channel. She gets lots of nice comments and has a pretty strong following. Her channel is actually doing pretty well using that tactic, and I think it now is growing on its own.

I think the method in the above video is a bit impersonal. Sub 4 Sub seems completely pointless to me... I haven't done any asking on other videos, but I do wonder how much it could actually hurt when you are so small.
