How much information to share?

Hey everyone! So I've been pondering this question for a while, ever since LizziesAnswers shared which university she was attending and how excited she was to go. I know that of course it's a terrible idea to share your home address to random strangers on the internet, but what is safe? Like, is it alright to share which school you attend or your city? Or, at least not dangerous?
 
I don't see how it would be dangerous to share what city you live in. It all depends on the fanbase you got really and what kind of channel you are.. as a vlogger you'd do it earlier than a gaming channel or something else. If you live in New York you could just say it, what could happen to you.. but if you live in a small village like I do then I'd not recommend it. Personally it shouldn't be a problem to share a few personal details but the channel should not be about you, but about your idea, so there's not really a reason to share such personal info in my opinion.
 
I think we can share information like CITY, COUNTRY etc. However I would never recommend to share your home address. I have seen many cases of DEATH Threats! There are some YouTubers who talk about sensitive topics like Religion, so people get furious enough to threaten the YouTubers. So in my case, I would never share.
 
I'd say watch where you film that's all. Don't film on your street too much, because you might accidentally get the street sign in the shot and some creep will track you. But if it's your school etc. don't share your schedule lol. Even if they know what university you attend there are hundreds of people there and there'd still be no way for them to find you unless they had more information.
 
Because you never know who is watching, I'd be very close to the vest about details of your life. Maybe the closest major metropolitan area you live in, but if you get someone who wants to do you any sort of annoyance/harm or get weird/stalker-ish, I'd err on the side of caution.
 
good question.. i am pretty private but i think sharing the city is fine. If you get big enough people will find out anyway. just avoid your social security number lol jk
 
Because instead of using my voice or my face I use subtitles, nobody actually knows who or what I am. Sometimes, people even debate about it. This is great because I can go anywhere unoticed. I don't want to attract attention nor have gatherings of fans, because I'm simply too shy xD

I Don't think its a good idea to mention the university you are at, even though its hard to find you in there if there is a huge student body you don't know what type of people watch and what they are capable of doing to you. You can mention what state you live in but not the specific city because some will try to find you later on and it will be a problem. Lots of big youtubers complain about fans finding out where they are from what they filmed and said so they are more careful with a new home. I also Would be careful when filming if you're a vlogger around you so you dont show any addresses that can show your location! restaurants and malls are fine. Hope that helped!! :)
