How much do you want to make on YouTube?

Ideally, if I was making just $200-$300 a month I'd be happy. That's some extra $ in my back pocket! Getting just there is daunting, letting alone any higher than that! I enjoy my full time job too much right now to want to quit just yet, but one day I'd like to freelance my skills and do youtube and support myself.

I think it's obvious that everyone wants to make as much as they can. My main goal is to be able to make a living off of it. But there are small goals along the way that you need to reach first. My first goal is to reach the payment threshold. I'm making progress towards that, especially in the past week. I had a video bring in close to 4,000 views (plus I've seen has resulted in close to 50 subs) which also made them watch my back catalogue.

But money is just a necessity so that it can be my only focus. I want to do work that I feel proud of, I want to work a job that I feel is helping society. I know a lot of people don't see 'youtubers' as helping society, but it is a very generic term. There are channels that are purely fluff that don't help society, but youtube is simply a medium for content creators to get their vision out there. So I feel doing videos that are entertaining and exposes the absurdities of society is a very noble task. Yes, I want to make money from that, and I know it's a problem if you just do this 'for the money', you are essentially a ***** who lacks integrity and does things they don't like simply for money.

So to be able to make a living pointing out the problems and making fun of them I think is a great goal. I mean people respect jon stewart and stephen colbert for doing the same. Why not do that on a different platform?

First goal, Payment threshold
Second, Second threshold in an even shorter amount of time
Third... well you get where that is going.

Eventually $1000 a month would be a nice start. And just start growing from there.

I would like to make enough to get to a point where I can have time freedom. That is, work the hours I want, when I want to. I would take half of what I make at my desk job. I feel like at that point, I could put the hours in that are required to make a really good YouTube channel.

For those who are saying they don't do it for the money, that's fine - however, is your time valuable? To me, I could be driving an Uber, or working as a bartender on the weekends as a side job, but to me, I feel like my time is better well spent working on something that I enjoy, that pays me while I'm doing it. Isn't that everyone's goal? Money doesn't matter, but it affects everything that does.

I agree with this man.

exactly what im saying. thnx for explaining bro :)

I make really good money as an engineer, so there is no way i could retire and pursue yt full time. That being said, i don't expect to make any money off of adsense. I've made a few hundred, but that doesn't even cover my cost. I would like to make enough from my store and adsense to not only cover costs, but to be able to hire an editor and buy some better equipment

I've invested probably around £700 into my channel to date. Don't expect it back anytime soon, but it would be nice to get it back someday!
My aim is to be able to support myself from youtube in a few years, so that I don't need to work a 9-5 job! That would be nice I guess lol, but it's a hobby I enjoy doing for now.

I'd like to earn enough to make it so my wife can achieve her dream of being a stay at home mum. Then pay her through the uni course to be a midwife like she always wanted to be. She's a nurse at the moment. I would love to let her achieve her dreams while living mine.
