How much did they pay you?

I can't really comment I still use a ten year old Canon 400D from years ago. I wouldn't automatically jump to conclusions about reviews, particularly on something like cameras. If you've been used to where everything is on the menus etc for years, then I could very well understand why you'd go with the 'inferior' model.

To be honest cameras these days are so good that I really don't think it matters a great deal what you buy.

It is just a advertisement war.
After all, people do not go spend 1500-2000 $ or euros just because someone told them so...

The problem is that people are driven to wrong conclusions from false reviews.
As long as we speak Youtube the main problem is credibility of influencers but also for the whole of Youtube in total.

Fortunately I think the older you get the easier it is to spot these channels which are paid to produce them. Its fairly easy to spot in the category I'm in (camping, hiking etc) because used camping equipment isn't totally clean, lol.

Provided you're using all the camera's auto features. This is what he said he wants to avoid depending too much on.

Seeing what smart phones and modern cameras could do circa 2010 is what made me give up photography to start with. Whats the point of being an ok photographer when everybody has devices that can do all the lightroom s**t themselves and make perfectly passable (for most applications) images for a fraction of the price that photographers pay for glass.

I'd love to get back into the hobby, but for wildlife and landscapes which are my thing, I'm looking at thousands just to re-enter at an amateur level. I may as well stick with my second hand, £100 camcorder and do videos, lol.

do videos

heh!... you will need photography for composition and framing eitherway :p
Who cares for heavy manipulations or gear?
It is all about creating and expressing yourself.
The net is full of pictures and videos about anything from raw to vfx.
That does not have to mean anything for you though.

There are three kind of people doing photography or videography I think.
Hobbyists, wannabees (or socialmedia-addicts), and professionals.
Competition and heavy image manipulation does not apply to hobbyists or lovers of photography.
Wildlife is something I envy, I do not have the milimeters required either the patience to wait for the right moment :D

PS don't take my word for granted, I suck at photography and videography, I am an editor actually :p
