how many views to live off youtube

I think the REAL question is..... Wth are you spending $5000 a month on? Where do you live? That is ridiculous. I think if you're wanting to make YT a career, you need to cut back on some luxuries for a while. Mortgages or rent usually are around $1500 as a max unless you're living in a penthouse in downtown NY... Car payments, insurance etc... $800. Groceries $200. Gas $200... Really curious on what you're spending $5000 on.
 
Its going to be somewhere close to 5 million views. It's alot but if you have a great audience and a surplus of videos on your channel you'll get views from older videos all the time.

If you do it for the money, you won't enjoy it and people will go away. Do it very passionately and don't think about the money, and it will come. I spent years trying to be someone I was not with very little cents in return, this past few months I started over, being myself and have gained 100+ subs !
 
The average revenue is $1 - $3 per 1k views. So in order to reach the $5k a month you're talking about you'd need to generate somewhere from 1,667,000 to 5,000,000 a month, depending on how much you're being paid per-view.
 
Theoretically - you could make that from 1 view, if that person has a reason to pay you $5K.
Relying on Adsense is generally not a great idea - as you've read, it varies greatly and has been consistently dropping as an average.

But, 1 view can turn into any amount of dollars if you have a product to sell. It makes it easier to make an income if you have a product worth investing in - whether that's an ebook, or consulting services or a physical item.
