How Long Should My Intro&Outro Be?

Hahaha oh wow I'd never seen that. I didn't realize there were "templates" out there. It's just crazy because I really have seen tons of videos, especially in the Let's Play world, that have these WEIRDLY pro intros and then boom the video kicks in and it's someone sitting in a closet recording with a wal-mart webcam and a $15 Logitech headset.

I'm not saying people shouldn't put effort into things and want to look professional, but realize that when your intro and outro seem REALLY slick and top-notch, if the video in between is low-quality then it just looks terrible for a viewer. It gives the impression of someone who bought shiny graphics rather than putting effort into the video itself.

And I realize the reality that you can pirate software but you can't pirate a camera, but I mean this genuinely that if you don't have the ability to make the videos look crisp and sharp, DON'T try to mask it with fancy effects. It'll actually be BETTER for you if the video sits at a steady quality level.

Hey man Could You Possibly Check One Of My Vids And Give Me Some Constructive Criticism (If Its Not Too Much To Ask) You Seem To Know What You Are Talking About :up2: I Just Don't Want My Vids To Seem Noobish...

Sure thing dude.

DEFINITE first thing is you need to have a clear beginning and end to your videos. It seems like you recorded all in a row and then decided where to split it up later, and that's kinda jarring how a video will just end, or start off with you in mid sentence like in Kingdom Hearts #3 that begins with "...which I have done before." Wait, WHAT have you done before? Augh, I gotta go back and check the end of the last video again...

Commentary-wise, I think you just need to get more comfortable with, well, making commentary. There is a LOT of dead air here, and I realize that it's because KH is dialogue heavy with long cutscenes, but that IS also kind of an issue with doing a game like this. Once the game starts, there really are just these long stretches where it's literally just saying what's happening. A lot of "I just need to do this... okay he's there... I got this..."

When things pick up a little bit, things get more interesting and I think you've got something going there, but one final note is pull down the game volume and put yourself up more. A lot of the time you get really swallowed up volume-wise by the game, I can hear some muttering down there, but I have no idea what you're saying.

Didn't mean for that to sound harsh, but hey you're early in this and you've got a good voice so there's plenty of room for growth. The big thing is to remember that this is a performance on your part just as much as the game. You mentioned Dashie at one point and while I'd really wager that almost no one can pull off his act without sounding like a copycat, he's definitely a good YouTuber to learn from because the reason his videos work is he is a hell of a character.

That's really the main thing, finding your voice. All the big names out there are the big names because no one else does it quite like them. You watch Dashie, or Markiplier, or PewDiePie, JackSepticEye, Yamimash, the Game Grumps, it's a different experience for all of them and the key is really finding what your "Lets Player personality" is. Only way to do that is to keep on doin' it, and all the stuff I'm saying up above is just about that. Keep making videos and every time you do, try to work on getting some more of YOU into it. Then you'll be golden. :)

If it's just an animation of your name, honestly, 3 seconds tops. Or don't have it in at all. Personally, I say don't have it.

You can get away with a longer intro if it actually has a high entertainment value. (JonTron and GameTheory come to mind).

Yeah I Just Noticed That My Mic Was Not At Its Highest Sooooo I Was Super Hype Its Just It Didn't Pick Up On It. Which Is A Good Thing That You Pointed It Out Because I Record Like 2hours Of Footage And Cut It Up With That Problem So I Should Put A Disclaimer At The Start Of Them Mentioning That " I Know Its A Problem And It Has Been Fixed For Future Vids" But Yeah Anyway Thanks Man All Advice Is Good Advice :up2:

I would have to say that the best time is about 20 seconds approximately for an intro and outro but don't go like 30 seconds to 60 seconds that would just turn people off.

I say 10 secs max for your intro, aim for 6 secs, 20 is way too long. For the outro 15-20 may be fine, although I would aim for 10 if there is nothing interesting happening within it

Got my intro at 6 seconds (recent videos use it) outro is at 12 seconds. Tried to keep eye busy in Intro.
