How is Nintendo's relationship going with YouTube's?

Nintendo's relationship with Youtube? I'd say it's amazing for them! YT gives Nintendo all the ad rev, but still takes their cut, so I imagine they're both quite happy with that outcome (Nintendo gets what they want, YT doesn't get sued, they both make that sweet sweet cash)

Nintendo's relationship with content creators? Ah, well, that's completely ruined, isn't it? I'm honestly surprised people even bother to play Nintendo games on their channels/streams/etc... Content creators should aggressively boycott any and all Nintendo products on their platforms.

True.... but who gives a f**k about Bloodborne. As long as they make tons with the next Mario Party/Smash Brothers/Mario Kart, a new Legend of Zelda, more Pokemon, and that amiibo craze, they don't really need Youtube. This ain't Five Nights as Freddy's where almost noone would have heard of it if it weren't for Pewds and Markiplier. This is Super Mario.

Youtubers that care that much about it should just boycott Nintendo products. I mean, don't just not make videos, I mean don't buy any of em. If there really are as much Youtube 'gamers' as you think they are, that many people NOT buying the next Smash Brothers will raise eyebrows.

Y'all can complain about what Nintendo is doing. I won't argue that you have a right to be upset and your arguments are valid. In the mean time, when I get into gaming, I'm going to include authorized Nintendo games. The less competition there is means more market share for me.

None of my content is monetized. However I do have Nintendo content on my channel and I haven't had an issue at all. One of my partners who I frequently collab with has all his content monetized save for the Nintendo stuff and he hasn't had any issues and he's been doing YouTube years longer then me.

I guess it just boils down to respecting other people's Intellectual Property. Let me explain. When I heard about the Copyright Strikes back in December of 2013 I already knew that uploading gaming footage was a gray area. I knew that Game Developers have the right to take down or monetize certain gaming content. For instance, If I did a parody Machinima with Halo I was totally well within MY RIGHTS to post that footage. Enabling Monetization on that Video can be done. However, game play' and let's plays and commentaries are where things get tricky.

I won't get into it all because there is so much to cover between YouTube's policies and the Law but I will say that you have to know what you are really posting. For instance, doing a commentary over gameplay is considered (by YouTuber's I've talked to or listened to) a derivative work so it can be posted and monetized without question but can still be struck down for copyright. The biggest reason why a lot of gaming content is allowed to be posted and monetized is because Game Dev's and Publishers allow it. That's just the quick crappy version of what is widely known.

Now, what people don't understand (especially people on YouTube) is that Intellectual Property owners have rights as well. They have the right to control where their IP is at or shown or how it's used. It's like movies in a way. I can't have a showing of 'Aging Adaline' at my coffee shop and charge people for it. I'm just not legally able to do that. With Video Games I can upload recorded footage of a game I own but I can't expect to make money off of it. That would be the equivalent of me redistributing a recording of 'Aging Adaline' onto my channel with my least favorite moments cut out and monetized. It can't happen that easily. I wouldn't want anyone doing that to my IP so me and my pal just make life easier for ourselves and Nintendo by not monetizing our footage which includes their IP.

Anyways, It just boils down to money. Nintendo are well within their rights and I say good for them with what they are doing. They've been taking losses for something like 3 or 4 years now? Is that accurate? Nintendo have just been catching up with this whole YouTube thing. I imagine more Game Dev's and Publishers are going to adopt this model in the future with the whole MCN-Copyright/Monetization-Share business and we'll see a whole lot more people flipping out on how they can't monetize gaming footage or that Game Dev's are taking a cut of their revenue from videos featuring their content.

I think what scares a lot of LPs is that more developers are going to follow nintendos lead on revenue split, which I can see happening. I personally don't mind seeing far less letsplayers considering that there are so many of them now, and a huge majority are doing it to easily capitalize on the monetization (while everyone else who takes a lot o time to produce content like myself gets crewed in cpm/pay since the ad revenue is going to them).

Personally I think it's dumb. What I am gratefull for is that it doesn't involve Poketubers because it is by game freak and I love me some Pokemon :)

It's not about selling ok, Nintendo could make better use of Youtube and do better than what they are. Connect with there audience more rather than just trying to put out games. I just feel they could do better than they already are and stopping people from using there content doesn't help them.
