How important is it to show your face in videos?

I wouldn't say it's necessary but like you said, it might make it easier for your audience to form and build a connection with you. I personally don't really care for any straight gameplay videos unless I'm watching it to learn about secrets or something that I might have missed. Unless your editing is top notch (dunkey), then I would rather see the face behind the gameplay.

My friend said the exact same thing, he wouldn't watch gameplays if he wasn't after a tip or trick but that he has watched some looking for them and stumbled across someone who he found incredibly funny. Interesting you think the same.[DOUBLEPOST=1493818810,1493818116][/DOUBLEPOST]The general consensus seem to be to include facecam, especially for gaming videos. It's something I was always planning to do eventually and hopefully it will bring across my personality a bit more. Currently looking into investing in a camera for this, are there any suggestions from anyone here for decent cameras, nothing at extortionate prices if possible? lol

Moved to the strategy / technique forum. :)

Video is a visual medium, so showing your face can only help a channel IMO. :)

It's not mandatory, obviously, anyone can have their own style and rules to their channel. Gaming channels, food channels, and other niches can get away with that. But remember, the YouTube community is all about engagement.
