how important is having an intro?

The Talk Handed One
Is it worth while having an intro? Does having an intro help at all with keeping viewers or does it just waste a bit of someone's time by breaking your video up? I only have one video at the moment but when I look at it I don't really see how an intro would help. Maybe it just won't fit in with my style?

I only ask because I'm wondering if it would be worth my time to make one

I removed my intro about 15 videos ago. I felt it was a waste of 12 seconds and did away with it. It was cool at first but I felt that it would get annoying especially since I do daily videos.

It's promoting your brand. But I change it up a bit. For my GTA IV playthrough, I know it won't get ranked much or viewed much so I put the intro in. That way my subscribers and any new viewers it may catch know the brand/channel name. It sort of burns the image and name into their mind. But for my Batman playthrough as it stands a higher chance of getting ranked but still will get lower views I decided not to put it in. The playthrough is long enough as it is and I don't want people waiting too long to get into it as I'm really new to doing a playthrough for a much newer game. Look, it has its ups and downs but it's all about timing. Definitely have an outro though.

Its the most important thing ever... then again I might be biased haha.

Well, I think it gives your video a brand, but you might want to play a little funny clip of the gameplay or whatever, then queue the intro, that is good. And make sure its not too long, 5-10 seconds is perfect.

I can see how it would work with gaming type videos, but with fast paced vlogs i don't think there is really any time for it, i think i'm just going to leave it for now, or maybe have one if i do longer videos.

Definitely have an outro though.
I did put an outro in my video but i'm unsure if it's the sort of thing i could use on all my videos as it was themed for that video specifically.

Would you say it is best to use the same outro every time? Or is making a video specific one ok?

It could make or break your channel, make it too long and crappy, nobody will probably watch, make it nice and right amount of time, people might actually be obliged to watch and share and come back for more.

If you have the time to make a specific 1 then by all means do it. Creativity is always good. I just use a general outro and intro though. I'm not that creative and it took me a few days to finish the intro and outro I did. Also my mate made the intro and outro music. So it would be an insult to both of us, not to use them lol

I've used one up to know because recently I watched a video and he said aslong as its max 5 seconds and has really good GFX then sure, other wise you may know people normally stay watching for up to 15-30 seconds so if you have a intro that wastes 5- 12 seconds of that time.
