How important is a channel trailer ?

I never had one, I would just use one of my videos as the channel trailer. I stopped doing that recently when I decided most people are probably more annoyed by an automatic video playing - I know for sure I pause channel trailers/the video in place of one as soon as I go to a channel. So if I do that I'd want my channel to reflect my preferences.
 
If all of your videos consistently have the same feel then it might not be as important, but if you are a channel with even a little diversity (or most videos run longer than the 30 seconds a trailer should probably be) then yeah... not a bad idea at all to have one.
