How Important Are Personal Websites?

I Love YTtalk
How important are personal websites? Sometime last year, I made a website for all my stuff (Youtube, my games, etc.) however, I'm not sure how helpful it's been.
It hasn't been updated in a long time, and since it's so outdated I decided to do a redesign of it.
So, how many of you on YTTalk have a personal website? Has it helped you? How important could it be?

Are you asking if it will help your growth or if its a useful tool to have?

If you want it for growth i would recommend you promote the ever loving hell out of it! Aswell as add a newsletter option where people can be emailed with new video's updates etc.

It can be useful if you use it. If you just let it sit there and rot, it doesn't do much good.
I use mine to post/embed my videos, sell Tshirts, sell products, etc.

I have a personal website, I use as my blog and a place to advertise my videos and will be a place where I have a small store to purchase branded items.

Honestly, I think it depends on what community you want to breed and how it deals with your content. Back in 2011, when I had an older group channel, we started a website that we could communicate with each other on, post updates, games, and casual discussions on the forums, and it also served as a gateway to our videos. It definitely helped grow our brand, because people liked us as people and got to see how we acted and behaved and then watched the videos for us, and the name of the series had a bigger meaning. It wasn't some huge growth, but with all the time and hard work invested into it, it definitely meant a lot to everyone involved. For a personal website, I don't think you'd have that same experience. It'd just seem to have a little bit of a self-centered approach. It'd be more about promoting you, rather than really be something of a community. That's my personal thoughts on it.

Yeah, second everyone saying you have to use it for it to be beneficial. That being said, you want to diversify your portfolio. If all of your content + traffic is from/on YouTube it would only take one change in YouTube's algorithm/policy to wipe out your entire business.

Also, you have no control over the environment on Youtube. If you have a blog you have complete control over what is displayed and how the user experience is directed. This will increase your ability to sell more and create a user experience that benefits them more than the YouTube platform which is distracting!!!

So to recap, a blog provides control/ownership of your brand and user experience.
