How/if/when/why/what to comment

Symph

I'm a dude with a face and I know how to use it.
So... people say "You should comment on other videos to get your channel noticed" Ok cool. But like... should it always be nice comments? Should you just speak your mind? Can you hurt your reputation by commenting? Should you privatize your comments so that your subs don't see them every time you comment? Should you do it strategically? Should you do it all willy nilly like you just dgaf? I get nervous about speaking my mind on videos. Usually I feel compelled to when I see a large group of people doing really dumb crap together like a dumb crap accomplishing team. I then think of something funny or obnoxious to say (for example when people all say the same thing about a video that shows none of them actually watched it but made a common assumption from the title)

Is that bad for a youtuber? Is it good? Should I be like WHATEVSSSSSS Or should I be careful how I represent myself. This dude with a face wants to know.

My Rule is if you can't make a nice comment don't make a comment.. Usually I try to make comments that warrent a response from the person who made the video or at the very least causes conversations. I really haven't done the comments much but the times I have, I noticed a lot of positives, people liking the comment and a few coming over and subbing and leaving comments on my channel. So I guess as they say you attract more flies with sugar than vinegar, but the most with dog poop.

I agree partially with what ken is saying in the first line, if you aint got anything nice to say dont say it at all, But also i wouldnt comment nasty stuff that would be another way to get your reputation ruined within seconds i would imagine.

hahaha I suppose that makes sense. I... I feel less naturally compelled to make nice comments, I have to think of them and do it on purpose. It's always when I see stuff that annoys me I feel the need to be like "You people are acting like children..." But yea I suppose that would only be wise if I were a ranter or something like that. Since I'm a hot pocket breeder and a musician I should probably play nice.[DOUBLEPOST=1387286822,1387286551][/DOUBLEPOST]

well I don't know it's really nasty. Like I was watching that video for the song "just a friend" Which is about infidelity. Tons of people in the comments didn't listen to the lyrics but assumed from the title it was about being stuck in the friend zone, which to me is just funny since people love to act like they know stuff without actually experiencing it. Someone said "This song is like the friend zone national anthem" And I wanted to say right after him "This comments section is like the "I comment without listening" who's who"

Which I... still chuckle at LOL But I suppose that's... just gonna invite trouble. Damn this sarcastic sense of humor of mine!!

There should be a medium I think....I mean...I don't swear when I comment on someone's video. That's a personal preference, I'd rather people not hear me swearing all the time :P. Be yourself when you comment..that's what people love you for. But if there's something really contraversial you feel about....sometimes it's best not everyone hears that lol. I don't know..that's just how I feel.

You know me better than anyone else. The stuff I feel like commenting is my usual snarky humorous wit, you know how I am, do you think that's fine?

Haha yes..I do know you :P......I think that's where you have to judge the person. You know I wouldn't care if you left a snarky remark on my video......but some people don't take kindly to snarky O_O. Also..people always tend to take things the wrong way even if you're joking. I guess there's nothing wrong with a tiny filter that the words seep through O_O

I generally just speak my mind. I allow G+ to publicly post my comments too as I feel that my circles might be interested. At times I feel bad because on a daily basis I like anywhere between 5-10 videos (maybe more) and usually post a comment on each video for the part I liked the most, or giving my thoughts or answering a question etc... I generally only post if I feel like I have something to contribute. I very rarely comment something as simple as "nice video" unless I feel it's deserved.
