People have been wondering about this, like how does youtube view likes, and dislikes. Will it affect your video showing up in the searches? From what I found out is that youtube doesn't see likes or dislikes but only activity in regaurds tp having your video show up in the searches.

There are a lot of factors, but I believe watch time and audience retention are the two biggest factors that you should pay attention to. The best thing I've found is to go to your analytics, then create a "group" for the different type of videos you have. You can then see the overall average audience retention on those videos. For instance, my lets plays (from the past) have maybe 15-20% audience retention, but my new films have 60-80% retention.

YouTube used to be all about the amount of likes/dislikes and views but I believe that has changed.

No one really knows 100% for sure. But there are probably some crazy algorithms such as the amount of likes/views/favorites/shares, in an hour/day/week, your video receives - along with retention, and watch time, etc.

Likes and dislikes do effect your ranking results in search (not by a tremendous amount unless you get them in hundreds), they are counted as 1 whole in interactions. This means for example: if you released 2 of the same video, assuming no other factors were involved (like 0 views, 0 retention, etc...) just likes and dislikes, if video A had 0 likes 500 dislikes & Video B had 200 likes 0 dislikes, Video A would out rank Video B. Similarly if Video A had 250 likes & 250 dislikes and Video B had 300 likes & 0 dislikes, Video A would still out rank Video B. The likes and dislikes are effected even more depending on where they come from, Subscribers liking or disliking help boost the video a little more than outside likes or dislikes, this is according to Markiplier who stumbled upon this information. The most important thing to helping a video rank is Retention which is > Interaction. Favourites used to help videos heaps as well.

For me I always get a few dislikes for my videos but it's purely that the content isn't always what people want so I'm not really that phased, infact I don't mind it really as I know people are watching. It would concern me more if I wasn't gettinng any dislikes at all!

Youtubes take likes and dislikes as "ratings" when they throw you into the search engine, so a video with 2 likes and 30 dislikes would rank the same as a video with 30 likes and 2 dislikes.

Dislikes are also form of engagement so they actually can help a video/channel to propagate. For sure they are not so negative as some people may think.

likes and dislikes both push your video up. it doesn't matter if you get a like or dislike they both count as the same. its called engagement or something.
