How does one sound happy/ier

TheGovernor

Loving YTtalk
I have definitely improved how I sound since I started YouTube but I am still getting feedback saying im monotone and boring in terms of my voice. Do you guys have any advice on sounding happier and interesting? (I recently got a new mic)

I woudn't say if it's about sounding happy, it's probably about showing emotions to erm.. to the max (do people still say this?)

I saw 3 videos of yours and it felt like... Let's pretend we're going into a weird delusional world

You're on your classroom and it's a boring class, the teacher calls your name and ask you to read page 52, and you do. That was kinda it, it felt like you were reading out of a paper on the same tone.

Now, I believe you already understand that, but let's keep following the same pattern here.

You sit down on your desk, and suddenly you feels your emotions almost leaking out of you, you don't question much, cause who knows, might be puberty. And then you get a note, you open the note and it says "haha, youre feice is uglerh", you get mad, YOU GET SAIYAN, SON, YOU ARE ANGRYYY!!!! and you're showing it.

You're asked to leave your class, now, a little bit calmer, someone ask you for directions, and you try to explain, but the person apparently doesn't understand very well, then you start saying in a loud, clear way. (Meaning I'd speak clearer, also, avoid the "hmms" )

Now that you helped that person, you start your way to the principal's office, but oh, what is this? Some people are auditioning for a Shakespear play? Sounds neat! Ignoring all responsabilities you had at that moment, you go take the audition, but you realize other people are really good, so when it gets to your turn you let out an amazing and dramatic "To be, or not to be, that is the question", and wows everyones, though you just realized you really would be in trouble if you didn't go to the principal's office, so you make your leave.

On your way to the office, you see a goat trashing all the school and it's neck\head start glitching all around... you start to say, in a low tone, "wow, what is going on?", but then your overflowing emotions makes you shout it. "WOW, WHATS GOING ON HERE, NO WAI, IMMOUT!"

You get to the principal's office, scared, and he starts lecturing you, and he finishes it all with "But even thought what you did was bad, it's understandable", you look at him with a confused face, he proceeds to end it with "Its not your fault, it's probably puberty". Moved by his words, you, with the spirit of seventeen thousands suns and several tears on your face shouts "PRINCIPAL! YOURE THE BEST!", he answers with "I know... I know."

And finally you go home, tired of your weird day... and you eat some nachos, the end.

Now, what did I meant with all of this?

No, I'm not really asking you to start shouting on your commentary (I might have overexagerated my text), but it did sounded like you were really quiet and kept only one voice tone (Thought some parts it looked like you were enjoying the game).

The "How to get to the cow farm", your voice was low and not clear enough, and there were several "Hmms".

The commentary should be more lively, I kinda said this quite a bit now but, the voice tone sounded the same for almost the whole video (and kinda all of those videos had it too).

Though remember, this is just one way of commentary, there are many others too, but since you're looking to sound happier\interesting, Id say thats it.

That was the most beautiful story iv ever read.

I understand where your coming from and I will try to change my tone when speaking, I'm sure that took you a long while to write so thanks a lot I will definitely take notes!

Nah, dont worry, I had fun going delusional mode. Gluck out there o/

You need to find out what's making you supposedly 'monotone'. For me, I try to make sure I record when I have the most energy but I also turn my headset up to a fairly loud-ish volume because usually our instinct is to speak up when there are loud noises, neat little trick that helps me a fair bit, primarily in my most recently recorded titles like TWD and AC Freedom Cry, before that I used to talk fairly quiet-ish. It also helps drown out any other noises my folks make (which is pretty much all they do now days) and allows me to focus on talking without worrying about whether anyone can hear me but keep in mind you may sound a lot louder than you normally do, to a point where your neighbours might hear you :S
