How does JonTron have so many views and subs

Found him today and I must admit, I find him hilarious. But looking through his videos, his uploads have been very erratic and irregular. One of the top tips YTTalk has given is to be regular and consistent with uploads, so how has this resulted in him getting so many subs - genuinely curious

Don't quote me on this, but I believe that before Game Grumps, he did upload to some degree of consistency, and between that, his personality (and certainly MANY other things, including proper advertising) gained him is subs. Most find him to be quite funny, and I believe the reason he still has so many subs is because people are hoping that he'll begin uploading again(consistently of course). The power of personality.

He became a meme of some sort. People are using photos of him on meme forums and sites, like 4chan and funnyjunk. Besides that aspect, his channel got popular because of his funny looks, his humor and the fact that other youtubers gave him shoutouts.

When he started out, it was all basic, but then he joined normal boots which really brought him up. They had pretty much every major game reviewer on youtube together on one website. Now its back up, but it did go down for a while. And he did have several comeos in other peoples vids. That and he did have some form of consistency. If you know of the Jontron "Lost tapes" you'll know what I'm talking about.
