How do YouTube networks work?

Hey!
I've been wondering why is being a part of a network allow for much more freedom when monetizing youtube videos?

Why do gaming channels need networks to monetize their videos? I've heard that networks don't actually have the licenses we believe they do. Their ability to monetize gameplay comes from... somewhere else?

What do networks do differently than a youtube partner does? I feel youtube wants to avoid being involved with lawsuits, so when a claim pops up they just accept it and slap it on your video.

Basically how do networks work? I'm not asking about how it makes money (views, ads, clicks on ads, ad view time, etc). How do networks function. How can they make money without fear of being sued?

They don't worry about getting sued because it's clearly written in contract language that they are not liable for the content that their partners post.
They make money from content producers.
They try to get ads of higher CPM and more targeted, look for syndication deals, and cross-market their partners to grow.
Nothing mysterious.

Apparently, most networks helps you with copyright claims and such, and you can't earn that much if you aren't part of a Network, networks gives you ads, ads pays the network, networks pays you.

It's difficult to understand from a gaming channel perspective. When a gaming channel is part of a network it appears they have the freedom to upload any gameplay they want. On their own they would have needed the licenses for it, but because they're part of a network it's not a problem even though networks don't have the licenses either.

I have been partnered twice and I know I may not be a professional but I am going to list off pros and cons of a network

Pros:
They can give you music to use in videos.
Help you with copyright issues.
They can get you sponsorship.
They let you use a dashboard. (TGN has an awesome Dashboard that you can make your own thumbnails and even put tags on vids.
They may help you grow and give you support!

Cons:
You aren't getting a full 100% of your pay (But the network is giving you all this free stuff like music and sponsorship)
There may be a binding contract (TGN and Machinima are good examples of this.) Or some may have no binding contract. (Freedom! is a good example of this)

I have seen so many people hate on networks and I do understand that there are some really bad networks but the one I am in, (which is freedom), is really good!

Now I know I said a lot and I may or may not be right. This is just what I have learned from reading a lot of writing about networks.

I'm a Gaming Channel, and apart from the fact that you can earn money, networks are just their to help you with small problems, it's not about licenses, you just get the power or approval to upload some copyrighted stuff.

yeeaaah buuuut whhhyyyyy??? Do you know? I understand you just get this random power to be able to do that stuff, but why does being partnered with a network make you super saiyan to copyrighted stuffs lol. I know my question is a bit tedious and unneeded but it feels like this weird middle man had to be created for youtube to work the way it does now.

Just imagine a lonely man in a lonely cell, and this guys get's you out of the cell and gives you power, but you can't get out of the building/jail, you can only gain control over your cell and stuff, back then you can't draw arts on your cell walls but now you can because they gave you permission and approval.

So it's as if God gave me some crayons so now I can monetize gameplay videos now. Sounds about right lol
