Hi guys,

I believe that Youtube has changed a lot since it was created. It is a lot harder to get subscribers now and it takes much more hard work and dedication to become noticed. How do you believe Youtube has changed over the years?

Much more mainstream and it is becoming less and less strange to hear someone say that they are a YouTuber.

I feel that when YouTube was first created, there was nobody who did it for the money, whereas now, we have tons of people who start making videos hoping to become a large channel that can be a job rather than just for fun. I will admit that I do think about the possibility that YouTube could become a job, but I don't make videos for that purpose. It is definitely more difficult to get started up on YouTube now than it was a few years ago, but that was before anyone even thought about people making YouTube videos as a job. The difficulties that people who started recently have different problems than those who started at a different time, but that is just a result of the differences in the goals of making videos. It used to be something people did because they had a creative idea, but now it has become people using the ideas of others to gain popularity or income. I am not saying that any of the changes are a bad thing, and it is just that: change.

Definitely by the difficulty to get "noticed" here on youtube. It is MUCH more difficult now. like back then you'd put up one video and you could be youtube famous easy. :banghead:It makes me wanna smash my face on a brick wall.

It's slowly getting more mainstream. Also there is a lot more regularly scheduled content instead of sporadic one-offs. Also gazillions of vloggers and gamers.

I remember when I first discovered YouTube it was like Google but with videos lol.
But now it's a genuine job really, whenever I tell my parents about a YouTuber or someone that makes money via videos they kinda look at me like "WTF?".
It's slowly becoming more mainstream which is both good and bad I guess.

I believe its become a lot more mainstream and manipulative in guiding you what to watch. For example, remember the youtube front page? Where popular or surging videos got front page? Now they choose for you what to watch, usually showing you where to go to feed the biggest youtubers around. The only thing I can find that is like the old youtube front page is knowyourmeme's popular vids page.
