How do you make a thumbnail?

So I will upload my video to my iMac into Final Cut Pro.

When I get to the part in the video where I want that to be my thumbnail so I print screen and then upload into Photoshop?

Thanks

The way I do it is as follows.

Grab a background from google or another image site. Personally for me, I use a orange spiral background I made myself for Vlogs, and a game wallpaper for the game I am playing. Then you take the image into your editing software. I use Gimp 2.8 which works just fine for me. But you can also use Pixlr to make professional looking thumbnails for free on the web. Then from there you just edit it till it looks good to you. I usually do the episode number and the title of the video with a couple extra features here and there. It is really simple when you get the hang of it. Good luck!

I do the same, I wait for a part of the video that seems to sum up the video and do a screen grab, I don't get fancy like other people do.

directelly export a snap during my editing and then open It onto an image editor to make the thumbnail ^_^
or directelly take a snap during the editing session and keep it xD

I grab a screenshot from my video, and then you can either paste it into Paint and open with Photoshop, or do what I do and view it via Dropbox, where mine save automatically - then open with Photoshop.

What I did with my latest thumbnail (see the video in my signature - or, if this is outdated, my Useless January Facts! video) - was Quick Select all of me and transfer that to a separate layer so I could put a white outline around myself. Then I transferred back to the original where I enlarged the image of me slightly, and added a Text layer in underneath.
I'm freakin' pants at Photoshop, but doing that was easier than I thought it would be! Haha.

I hope this helps you! Oh, and this is very important.
When cropping your thumbnail, please ensure it is in a 16:9 format so you don't lose anything!

I find an image for the background. Then I add a screen capture of me to the image with titles. I create the thumbnail in Keynote, and then export the image. It usually goes very quickly.
