How Do You Land On YouTube Homepage

Soo many videos on Youtube.. but how do some videos end up landing on the youtube homepage.. while others are never found but sometimes wayyy better???
 
I think it's to do with the amount of likes it has got, and possibly the amount of people talking about it, for example if its currently trending, i noticed the new youtube app has a trending option that has videos from youtubers I have never even heard of, but a great way to discover new youtubers i guess!
I also think it's to do with the type of videos and youtubers you watch too, tries to find similar videos, or videos from the same youtuber you often watch.
 
i believe, it depends on your technical technical DNA. If you keep making (likes/dislikes, shares, sub and comments...etc) on certain type of videos then your technical DNA will be updated accordingly. Therefore, your T-DNA sort its corresponding most ranked videos on YouTube search engine and they end up landing on the YouTube homepage and i think each user has its own different YouTube homepage. I noticed that when i uploaded video about "how to solve Rubiks cube" though which i found similar video suggestion from YouTube landed on my YT homepage.
 
In some aspects, much of it is due to the personal video preferences of that YouTube user. YouTube keeps cookies on all watch histories for those that don't have YouTube accounts, and for those that do, their personal history just tags along their profile; so if you watch more provocative anime clips, you'll be getting those recommended once you get back to the YouTube homepage or just browsing around.
For the TOP TOP YouTube videos, the ones everyone sees regardless of history, this is due to a few factors; amount of views per hour, comments per hour, and shares. Look at a top video right now. Disregard the actual video content and look at the metrics, the amount of views it has gotten since it uploaded, where are the spikes? How many comments does it have, how many likes and dislikes?
 
It has to do with two things.

1. Like Demitirus said - viewing history tracked to that IP address of the viewer. YouTube recommends videos that it thinks people will like. It's pretty smart about this. YouTube's algorithm learns that if people watch videos from channel A, B, and C, there's a pretty good chance they'll like videos from D, E, and F.

So then the question becomes how do you get to be channel D, E, or F.

2. It has to do with an internal numbers YouTube looks at called Channel Authority (views, likes, dislikes, subs, social shares, etc) and Video Authority (Primarily watch time and average view duration).

So, in order to show up on someone home page they need to 1) be into the type of content you make, and 2) you need to have a popular channel with a good video.

I kinda agree but there are times where a person JUST joined youtube and uploaded 1 video like and somehow got lucky
