How do you edit a montage?

That's a very "broad" question. Yer let's just say that.

From the montages I've seen there is a lot of editing and effects that go into making them and I think you need to narrow your question down and learn an effect or two at a time, youtube tutorials and written tutorials will be able to help you learn an effect by itself then all you have to do is merge a few effects together and you'll have a basic montage.

I personally feel like your Brother should have invested in a program like Premiere or something along the lines of that. Maybe even get a Adobe CC membership so you can use all the adobe programs like Premiere, After Effects and Photoshop as these will all help :) I feel like Vegas is a mediocre software not as amateur as something like Movie Maker or VideoPad but not as professional as Final Cut Pro 7 or Premiere Pro CS6/CC.

Funny thing, he actually has premiere, but he is currently in boot camp, so I won't have access to it for a few weeks yet.
 
What my friends and I have done in the past is to take random clips of whatever you are trying to make, and add some epic music, combine it into Sony vegas or premiere, and ta-da! Add some effects, and you get your montage!
 
*cod* start shooting in a random direction and hoping you will get a kill, take the "SKILLED" shots and do that 100 times and put them in a video. When doing that put your favorite music like "the idiot song." Then you edit it by putting random effects in the video like slow motion affects to make your viewers think your good but just shooting randomly. Then play the game for your whole life, ask to be in faze, denies you, bribes them gets in. And thats about how you shoot a montage.
