How do you divide up collab earnings?

Forgot to mention this part. When we shoot at YouTube Space, we sometimes receive funding for collaborations, which ranges from $250-1000 based on the number of channels involved. For us, the general rule is when we take lead and get paid, we provide the catering and crew and the funding belongs to us as $1000 doesn't even come close to covering expenses for one day of shooting.

Oh wow. Okido. That's awesome. I really hope to go to a Youtube Space some day. Thank you for sharing your experience! :-)

You can do one of two things in my opinion.

Either split the earning in half, and send each to one person, or as suggested before, make two videos and post one on each channel. The biggest thing is that you link to each others video at the end so that if one goes viral then the other video has a chance of banking off of the views...

I've seen instances where two channels upload the same exact video on each of their channels.

Example: DaveDays and Rebecca Black did a collab on the song "Saturday". It's on both their channels.

i have done 1 collaboration. basically, i took clips from a channel's videos and turned them into a song (i posted it on my page). he then made a reaction vid to the craziness we made. i got 2,700 views...he got like 7,000+ (he has far more subscribers). no money was exchanged, but it was a fantastic experience, and i hope i can do something similar with other youtube channels, looking for a taste of music and humor :) .

This is why I don't mess with collabs, not only do you have to try and make it fair this way, but also when it comes to paying the tax man, one person is likely to get bent over.

You can track the earnings of the individual video, so you can evaluate and share after the first week, first month etc. I would say the difficult part is deciding who gets to host the video if you happen to put a lot of work into it and only create one. This may be difficult to decide particularly if there is a large disparity in subscriber base.

I've done quite a few collaborations, and in the pranking world, it's usually your idea so usually it's never split. An idea in the pranking world is worth much more than the collaboration, so i've never heard of anyone splitting money. And I myself have been in two videos where both were my idea.
- I gave one of them as a collaboration to help myself grow
- And the second video I made for this other channel as a shoutout but also showing one of my videos
And both videos went to 1M+ views, but not on my channel as stated above. I get no revenue from it (easily 2k+ dollars), but that is fine because I did it to get viewership and a subscriber base, rather than money.

So to shorten things, money isn't really the important thing in collaborations, its about helping spread the growth, and really it's much more fun doing collaborations. Or at least, I like pranking with many different people.
