How do videos get found in the first place before they get popular?

I've Got It
This is just out of curiosity. This question literally just popped into my head a few minutes ago. So I was just looking at some videos from the "Popular videos" section on Youtube and there are some quite obscure videos that I think people won't ever be able to find. Yet there it is, found among the millions and millions of videos that get uploaded everyday. Then it gets popular due to sharing of course but how did the video get found in the first place?

I wish I knew man, it seems as though the established ones can get away with obscure videos cause they got all the subs. Us little guys will probably not get any of the pie if we don't use SEO and other stuff.

yeah but there are people who aren't established and a video can just blow up all of a sudden

I'm not so sure videos get "found" in the fist place so much as "shared" in the first place. If a video has viral potential, I doubt you need that large of a group of friends to share it with to get the virus spreading.

One recent example is the trailer flip video that was posted on the 18th. I see how it can get a lot of shares but how did anyone find that video in the first place?

Well, I recently hit 65k views on 1 video in 1 day, because I posted it on the CSGO Reddit. Helped me grown my channel and people seem to like it and sharing with their friends. Reddit is a great source :)
