How do i verify my FB for External Links?

I know how to enable external annotations and all that for my channel, but when i go to verify it i have to post an HTML Tag to my FB or upload an HTML File. With both of these options its not very clear on how to do this. Can anyone help with a step by step description? I can't seem to find out how to do this anywhere..
 
This is an extremely annoying issue, we are encouraged to link our channels with our social media, but YouTube hypocritically don't allow you to link via your videos... Why?

It seems a bit backwards to let us put links to our facebook and twitter on our channel page but for example not in an annotation.
