How do I use YouTube Tags

Hello Guys and Gal's.

One of the main things to get your video's noted on YouTube is the use of really good video tags. But there lies a problem that many of you might know of too, it's quite hard to find the right tag's for your video.
Are there people here on YTtalk that are knowledgable of the use of tags (or AdWords) because I know that haven't got any useful knowledge about both of these topics. Though that might also be due to that fact that I'm a blonde girl;)

Hope there is someone that can help me(us) out!

Yvette

Have you tried chrome extension called heartbeat or Tubebuddy ? You can look up any video on YouTube ( find the one that at the top of the list that similar to your videos) and see what they used as tag. Doing that would give you an idea of what to used! Also Tubebuddy let you search a tag to see if it's a "good" tag to use depending on how competitive it is and how often that keyword being searched!

What I typically do is type in things that relate to your video and see what is populating on youtube, then just use that as a tag. Try to ensure that they are related, and just throw random tags on there since that can get your video into trouble and reported territory (according to other threads I've seen on here).

- You can open up some Google analytic tools like the Keyword Tool, google trends, etc. and put in tags related to what your video is to see the popularity and competition of certain terms, and to get ideas for similar keywords to investigate. (now I think this is on Google searches and not Youtube, but the data can still be useful.)

- another thing you can do is put in keywords (title of game you're doing or whatever) in the search box of Google/Youtube and see what appears in the drop down suggested searches. These exist because of what people commonly search for.

- go ahead and search your keywords and see what comes up in the results. You can look through the first few pages to see what other people did and what's popular.

Keep putting tags in your video until it doesn't let you put in anymore, because why not. Don't stress too much or spend too much time over getting the perfect tags. I probably spend less than 15 minutes getting all my tags filled out.

I actually just now downloaded tubebuddy and it's awesome. It makes me think of youtube from like 5 years ago when you could see the tags that other channels were using. I had always wondered why they got rid of that function. . .

I totally recommend Tubebuddy coupled with HeartBeat. You see all the tags, monetization, stats, everything for every video and yourself.

Sounds like a lot of people have experience with TubeBuddy. I think I'll start if with using that one then

Thanks for all the replies!
