How do I get the ball rolling?

Hey! Hopefully I can suggest a few tips:

take a look at your channel layout - create a banner, layout your videos in a professional manner, create playlists

be consistent - find your niche and what types of videos you want to upload

interact with everyone - subscribers, anyone who leaves a comment, join relevant forums and subreddits and contribute.

learn how to create appealing thumbnails and SEO - when you are small, most people will find your content through searches or YouTube suggesting your video based on what someone has just watched - SEO will help a lot here.

gateway videos - do a tutorial or a tip/tricks video for a particular game you are playing - this helped me a huge amount and still drives most of my traffic

Thanks! I'm working on getting my banner and profile pic it's just taking a while. Also I'm recording from my ps4 and editing with share factory. I've made some pretty good thumbnails they just don't transfer when I upload to youtube but I'll look into it more. Thanks so much for the replies! You guys have been so helpful.

The custom thumbnail won't automatically transfer, when you are uploading a video there is a spot in the bottom right of the upload window that says custom thumbnail and that is where you select the thumbnail.
 
There's a big misconception, especially from people that don't watch a lot of gaming channels, that the main attraction is the gameplay.

The most popular gaming channels are personalities. Guys like markiplier, jacksepticeye, pewdiepie etc. are all big because people love them, not specifically their gameplay. The only real exception to this is very talented competitive players.

If you just post videos of you playing games with no audio or video, they're getting a lesser experience than just playing it themselves. I mean, how many people do you subscribe to and watch regularly that just post gameplay with some music?

Also, never apologize or say your videos are bad. If you don't think they are good, what chance will viewers think they are? If a video doesn't meet your expectations, don't post it.
 
It takes an extremely long time usually to get a decent amount of views and subscribers. As long as you keep at it, you will most likely keep getting views and subs.
 
You are not the only one on YouTube. There are many more like you, and if you are trying to fill a nice which has a lot of folk already in it... well... Good luck!

It took me a year and a half to where I am at now. And compared with those channels that just blow up I am still a small fry at ~780 subscribers. But that's the thing... Having fun is half the battle. Keep at it, and soon people that like your type of content will show up. And if they don't, and you are bothered by it, find another hobby to pour your heart and soul in. In the end, it's all about your personal happiness. If you can bring others happiness with your videos that's a nice bonus!

I understand this aspect of youtube and for being extremely green I think I've done a fairly decent job of it. The main source of my frustration comes from having no network of friends to share my videos with. That's why I joined yttalk. Which by the way has been awesome so far. You guys are great!
 
Dude, I know this personally, your videos aren't going to explode overnight, This may seem discouraging or encouraging, but I have been doing this for nearly 2 years and I only have 290 subs. And 15k views.

other than that, your actually video and voice quality is good. Just like the others said, stay patient and eventually you'll see some progress.

I never knew about that "edit channel navigation" and that enable "browse". I changed it immediately and it feels a lot better :). Even this is not my topic, thanks!

take this guy's advice.
also, as a gaming channel, it's going to be a REALLY slow journey at the beginning, buddy. it's pretty hard to grow a channel that has long videos (10+ mins)
so you might want to try making short videos that are engaging before actually making long let's plays videos.

but hey, you can still do whatever you want, it's your channel. i'll just wish you good luck in this journey. :)
