How do adverts work?

Hi there. So I want to know how adverts work because I think I am being messed about by my network. I am partnered with Vectra Gaming and therefore I get adverts on my videos but I noticed that I don't get adverts for every single view. I have a gaming channel and that is why I am partnered.

I contacted them and they said that ads only show on videos around 30-60% of the time meaning that I won't get paid for every view and I checked my statistics a moment ago and it shows that I have got around 8,000 views since I joined and I have only been paid for about 1,800 of them views which I calculated to be around 22% of my views having ads. Am I being messed around or is this how ads work?

If you could link me to something that explains it all or if you could explain yourself I would appreciate it because I am new to being partnered and I am really confused about this.

Thank you for taking the time to read this :D

Correct. An ad doesn't show with every video. Also, you do not have to be with a network to monetize your videos.

Thank you for your replies :D I forgot about adblocker. So considering I don't get a HUGE amount of views 22% is an average amount and my network isn't ripping me off?

I can't say whether they are ripping you off or not. I can say that not every view gets an ad. As others mentioned, some devices don't every show ads. Another factor is that if the viewer is logged in, YouTube determines an appropriate ad for them. If they don't have one, then one isn't shown. If your viewer is in a region that doesn't speak English, then they won't show an ad that is in English.

I get it now. Thank you :D

22 % is a bit low to be honest, but gaming channels are probably on the bad side of this, seeing as most of the viewers are technologically smart, and probably knows how to install an add-on for their browser.
