How did you react when you first heard/saw yourself on camera?

Hey!

Did you hate the sound of your voice? Did you hate the personality you were giving off? Did you hate the way you looked? How do you feel about it now? Are you okay with it now? How did you get over your initial reaction?

At first I definitely didn't like the personality I was putting off, and so I was really hesitant to show it to anybody. I actually recorded my first youtube video 5 times. Now I'm totally fine with my voice and looks most of the time, I just hate when I record a video and I have THAT ONE hair that's sticking up or out of place.

So how did you react to yourself on camera?

Given that I was about 10 at the time..... I have no idea, haha.
As for now, I'm completely fine with it. Sometimes I don't even associate myself with the person on screen, which definitely helps me enjoy my videos more.

I hated watching myself..even worse is when you have to watch yourself a million times while editing. But eventually I got better and more natural in front of the camera and now it's not so bad.
On a side note, one time i spent two hours filming a vlog (plus setup/tear down of my tripods/lights) only to find out while editing i had a boogey in my nose the whole time and i had to go back and reshoot everything

Oh Man I noticed all my bad habits.. Biting my tongue being one of them and when I started I was kinda boring. I opened up a bit but i still bite my tongue a lot >.< which is soo bad.

Hahahaha! Man oh man, luckily my friend is the main voice, but occasionally I make a cameo and I freaking hate it!

I didn't hate it, it just made me cringe so bad. I think in a way it helped me to become a lot more confident when speaking as I saw that I wasn't as confident on camera as I really thought I was.

My reaction was something like "Is that how I sound?!?" and "I can't understand what I'm saying..." . Not a fan of my own voice really haha, I try to fight through the hate I have for it though and just get on with it ;)

I always used to hate my voice. Everytime I would listen to a recording (pre-youtube days) I would cringe. And of course my first few videos were hard for me, but after a lot of supportive people, I've grown a lot of confidence in that department ^^ I don't think I'll ever be ready to be on camera though, lol.

I think its quite natural for your own voice to sound alien to you until you get used to it. I used to hate the sound of my voice and thought I looked awkward on camera. After a few months of editing voice overs I am used to the sound of my voice. It doesn't bother me at all to hear it. I recommend doing some submersion therapy if it bothers you and just listen you yourself talk whether its on a blog or one of your videos. Do this for a few hours a day (I do this daily just during editing) I'm am actually starting to like the way my voice sounds now. Just keep at it and you will get more comfortable.

Best of luck buddy!

The first time I saw myself on camera in a video, it reminded me of something a director said to me in rehearsal for a play. She pulled me aside, shortly before we were going to stat the run of the show, and said, "Is there something you can do with your hands?"

"My hands?" I asked.

"Yes, they're so big and they're so....gay."

So I worried that I was way too flamboyant to go onstage for quite a while and it affected my performance quite a bit. That's my first few videos. If you go to my first hair video, I'm trying desperately to lower my voice and stay much more calm than I usually speak. Now, I don't care one bit, take me or leave me, I'm the person I am, but I'm a little bit amused and sad that I thought I had to tamp myself down so much just to be on YouTube.
