How are you mentally?

YouTube can be a very unforgiving place, with trolls around every corner along with haters and spammers.

Sometimes it gets people down and sometimes it really really gets to peoples heads.

When it comes to starting a YouTube channel you have to be mentally prepared for everything that comes your way and you have to ground yourself no matter what.

Be prepared for the hate
Be prepared for spam and trolls
Be prepared to fail
Be prepared to succeed

But most of all
Be prepared mentally.

What I want to know is how are you guys doing mentally? Has YouTube ever bothered you so much it actually took a toll on your every day life?

Not yet, but I've had a surprising amount of great commenters and very few trolls/haters. I just delete anyone who's being a jerk, but I do realize that I have it totally easy.

I can't remember where the quote comes from but it goes a little something like:
If you don't get any haters, you're probably not getting it right

On the surface the quote sounds silly - surely people hate others for doing something wrong, but the principle behind the quote is that the more successful you become, the higher the % chance you'll have some people who just don't like you for their own reasons, so getting big involves dealing with hate. Hell even getting anything other than tiny involves some level of dislike even if it's just the odd "Bad video" comment or a thumbs down.

I've only had a single negative comment on my videos so far in the just under 3 months I've been on YouTube, 5 dislikes. For coming up close to 10k total views now I'm pretty happy with that.

Honestly I did feel pretty bad about that first dislike at the time though I'll admit, mostly because it came on my latest video at the time in the first few views, and so I figured I'd done something to annoy people - but I quickly realised the way it works is if you have a niche you'll please the people who come to watch your content, but there's always going to be someone or another who comes to your videos who isn't intended for them. So now if I get a dislike or whatever I just check which video, check if there's anything in there that might have justified it, and if not I ignore it.

So don't beat yourself up if they unsub, or leave a mean comment, or dislike it - if anything that's just a reminder that people outside of your niche are finding you too, which means you're growing! ;)

Most people won't give you too much hate on YouTube in my experience unless you steal something from someone else on Youtube or you rant about something that splits opinion like feminism or religion. But yeh everyone will get the occasional bored guy posting hateful stuff. The worst I've got is that the sound quality is bad on one of my videos. And one just said "s**t" lol

I am completely mentally unstable.

Had loads of people telling me to kill myself on YouTube and they seem to like calling me fat.

What they don't know is that I was mentally unstable before youtube so literally nothing they say bothers me.

I just have mental issues because I was battered to much as a child, youtube is a walk in the park.

Most of my comments are either really nice, saying they liked or loved the video, some give me suggestions, and then you have the really rare hate comments, which usually are people I angered in one of my many random comments. Gotta get that yummy salt.

I mainly have only nice comments, but one of my videos has over 7,500 views and it gets a LOT of hate. I usually delete the comments every once in a while if there is too many. It has double the dislikes as it has likes but the comments are always lame like not specific they just say the f word, or a sentence containing the f word. I think because it was a how to comedy, so they thought it was real and then were annoyed that it was just supposed to be funny. It used to bother me and get me down, now I'm just like whatever it has way more views than my other videos at least like one in every thousand people that watch it understand the comedy and subscribe to me. Knowing that it's the most views and brings in the most people makes me not care so much that it keeps getting mean comments. At least no one ever like insults me personally. I think if they called me ugly or something like that it'd bother me more than all of the f this f that you're stupid comments I get.

Personally, I haven't gotten any hate yet. At least, not on this channel. In the past, however, I have gotten hate. I think the best way to deal with hate (because there is a lot out there, especially if you grow) is to just shake it off. Don't get too offended on the hate you get. Instead, shake it off because I think if you're not prepared for hate, you're not ready for the real world; there will always be haters.

I am underlslept. I can edit and translate our videos effieicently only after kids go to sleep - this means after 11 (sometimes 11:30) pm.
