How about video branding ?

Hi there, i hope i post in the right place...

I'm a wannabe youtuber and i have a very clear idea of what video i want to make : Roughly, educational video with a touch of humor to make it easier to watch and learn. As a graphic designer i already made my channel design, intro and outro template.

But i haven't planned my video background because... I have absolutely no clue of how to design it.

Let's have an example (it's a french youtuber) : _ygFBNYa2Ag?t=1m29s

Actually, i want to do my video like that (or maybe a little closer from the camera) but look at the background. It's rather simple yet very well designed. Because i will make educational video, i though about a bookcase, and because i'm a geek i'll add some poster or... i don't know. I just don't want a plain white wall as a background, but i don't want it overloaded either.

Searching on the web for tutorials has led me nowhere... And this is one of the two thing that prevent me to begin the shooting right now (the other is the difficulty to effectively write the script, but i will do a thread about that later)...

There's actually a bunch of HOW TO: Youtube Tutorials on RPM's Youtube Channel, you should check that out, I can't link it since I still haven't bought a membership.
 
Take a look at Crash Course (with John and Hank Green) and their setup. It's very scholarly and also fits in with their semi comedic flair.
