Horrible file sizes please help.

I record with a DSLR. Yes, you should. See what that does for you =)
Sorry if I sound dumb to you, it looks like you really know what you are doing, but if I change the file type when rendering the video does it lose quality, I know each file type would be different, but like how would it handle the file sizes differently? Can anyone give me an overview of the file types and a brief description of their advantages/disadvantages? Thank you again!

I save it as AVI and render it as WMV. MP4 doesn't make too much of a difference.

I record in 720p using Lagarith Lossless Codec (recommended by JackFrags).

8 minutes = 600mb.

Main ones are AVI, MPEG \ MPEG, MOV, and WMV and others like MKV.

AVI has very little compression but produces very large and high quality videos. Mostly not needed if they're just going to be uploaded to YT.
MPEG4 is for the smaller files, and is highly compressed. It's recommended for YT in my opinion. My videos look great in terms of quality I think.

So render it as an WMV, but what do I compress it with, like mpeg4 isn't on my list of file types, but I use H264 to compress. Or would just saving the finished movie as a WMV make it small without compressing it? What file type do you recommend to mcompress, or what do you use? Thank you again for the help!

when you load you Unconpressed clip (the one you got from dxtory) into your editer (what one do you use?) there will be an option to render it in a smaller file size
